Nanny-Pro Professional Development to Employment Program

Nanny-Pro advances your career with support to find employment with the right family for you. Nanny-Pro is offered as Part I, II, and III with over 24 hours of personalized training, giving you support where you need it. We offer a hybrid model of online workshops on evenings and weekends, in Spanish and English, supported by four-hour in-person events with our trained mentors and community partners for individualized support to create resumes, and budgets, and find employment. We anticipate offering this program in April 2024!

  • In Part I, Creating a Professional Portfolio our experienced educators teach you what documents are needed to show you are professional, to support you in getting these documents, and then to create a professional portfolio to use in your job search. Whether you need to create or update your resume, gather references, certify in CPR/First Aid training, or obtain a Trustline background check, this course is for you!

  • In Part II, Employment Laws, Compensation, Benefits, and Budgets you learn the Federal and State employment laws that apply to nanny employment, what current hourly rates are in your area and level of experience, and what benefits you can expect from an employer. Our in-person training provides individualized support from our mentors and community partner, Renaissance, to create an annual budget so you know what your ‘livable wage’ is and the hourly rate and schedule you need to meet your living expenses.

  • In Part III, Finding a Nanny Position you learn a roadmap to find a nanny position that is right for you. Our educators show you where to find families looking for a nanny, how to go through a process of screening and interviewing, and what to consider to make an informed decision. Our in-person training provides personalized support to find employment with our community partners. Value-added is to create and take a professional outfit from our non-profit partner, Dress-for-Success, to show up for your interview as a pro!

Students completing all three parts of the series receive:

  • A Certificate as a Professional Nanny

  • A $400.00 stipend from the CA Early Learning Care stipend program. Eligibility: working for San Mateo County families living in an identified zip code.

  • FREE CPR/First Aid training and Trustline Background Check - a $250 value.

Community College Certification

Certificate of Achievement in Nanny, Child, and Family Studies

Enroll in Foothill College’s Nanny and Family Studies program, a unique collaboration between TIFFAN and Foothill College, and earn a Certificate of Achievement in Nanny, Child, and Family Studies!

Home-based Childcare Providers Living or Working for Families in the City of Mt. View are eligible to receive a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to this program!

The curriculum adapts the National Association of the Education of the Young Child (NAEYC) Standards and Competencies to the unique work of a nanny.  The 20-unit ECE Certificate is designed as a level-based certification corresponding to the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) Pathway1. The certificate is aligned with the required courses and/or pathway to earn an associate degree that is recognized by the CA community college system; and the certificate allows the holder to obtain a child development teacher permit. As such it allows graduates to migrate in and out of any form of care as their needs and the childcare market needs change.

Paired with existing Child Development courses, Foothill College looks to raise the quality of care provided by nannies in private homes. We believe this education will allow professional nannies to advocate for themselves by achieving formal education that hasn’t been previously offered.

The Certificate coursework includes the following. Courses are offered each quarter and online in Zoom.

CHLD 1: Child Growth & Development (part 1)

CHLD 8: Child, Family & Community

CHLD 50D: Infant & Toddler Development & Care

CHLD 80A: Communication & Self-Reflection Practices For Nannies

CHLD 80B: Curriculum In The Home

CHLD 80C: Safety & Nutrition Of Young Children In The Home

CHLD 88B: Positive Behavior Management

  • Scholarships and Financial Aid Available.

  • Eligible students earn a stipend provided by the CA Early Care Stipend Program
